Komb Green Solutions

The waste mountains of Korogocho, the largest informal settlement in Nairobi, were once the source of crime, the bane of the Nairobi River, and the desertion of hope by starving communities. In case of Enter Komb Green Solutions, a youth-based revolution that started in 2018 by Christopher Waithaka. The result of this daring program has been removal of more than 120 tons of garbage, planting of 20,000 trees and empowerment of 3,221 individuals who have shown that young people can mend people and planet in the most difficult neighborhoods in the world.

From Crisis to Catalyst

Korogocho was a storm of youth who had become trapped in the cycles of crime, rivers full of plastic and sewage, air full of pollution and families without food that was nutritious. Mounts of rubbish, creating illness and hopelessness and losing the soul of the community. Christopher’s vision? Turn the tide–transform youthful energy, which is destroying, to creating, and waste, which is making, into beauty that is looking-glasses.

A Whole Person, Experiential Change

Komb Green Solutions is not the company that cleans it but rather rebuilds. Here’s how;
River Revival: Cleaned up 120+ tons of waste (70% organic) on Nairobi River banks and reclaimed the areas back into safe parks.

Circular Food Magic: Vermicompost and black soldier flies larvae transform waste into fertile soil and animal protein to feed fish, pigs, poultry, and flourishing kitchen gardens.
Green Army: Constructed a 20,000-tree nursery to restore the riparian, to shade communities and combat floods.

Skill Surge: Educate trained youths and women in conservation, carpentry, sustainable farming that opens income and pride.

Water Win: Community kiosk brings clean water to where short supply was the order of the day.

Lives Changed

Scores of former criminals are leading clean-ups; women are making money on crafts and agriculture; children are playing safely in green parks. Environmental consciousness is high, and communities are now accepting sustainability. 3,221 direct beneficiaries and thousands more through cleaner rivers and food systems.

Created to Prosper and Replicate

Circular systems are sustainable: garbage is used to feed animals, animals are used to add richness to soil, soil is used to produce food, which is used to generate more profit. Community ownership and skill training = self reliance. Copy and paste: slums require green jobs, not clean-ups. Komb is scaling Nairobi to the world cities.

The Ultimate Youth Climate Leadership

This is Youth Climate personified. The team of Christopher goes on the offensive of climate-saving waste, planting more trees, resilient food, breaking the poverty traps. Youth are not mere participants, they are also leaders, and they show how green skills + community power are going to heal wounds in urban areas everywhere.
